A special forces unit of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had earlier seized a merchant vessel about 80 km off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to sources, diplomatic channels between New Delhi and Tehran are open and efforts are being made to ensure the safety and early release of the Indian crew members.
One of the ships, the Candy, had a 17-member crew, including nine Turkish citizens and eight Indian nationals, while the other one, the Maestro, had 15-member crew, including seven Turkish nationals, seven Indian citizens and an intern from Libya.
