The previous edition of VAJRA PRAHAR took place in December 2023 in Umroi, Meghalaya. This marks the second major exercise of the year between the Indian and U.S. armies, following Exercise YUDH ABHYAS, conducted in Rajasthan in September 2024.
Exercise GARUD SHAKTI 24 aims to build familiarity with each other’s tactical approaches, improve interoperability, and strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between the two armies.
Earlier today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the disengagement process in LAC (Line of Actual Control) in eastern Ladakh is nearly complete.

He assured the opposition members that there would be no change in patrolling patterns in eastern Ladakh, the site of the dispute.
Referring to the Chinese official media organization, Global Times, the spokesman said it “reports that India’s Operational Logistics is not geared up adequately and will not be able to fight through winters effectively. This can best be attributed to ignorance. Indian Army is fully prepared and more than capable for fighting a full-fledged war even in winters in Eastern Ladakh”.
The Indian army refuted Chinese claims, stating, “In the instant case, it was China's PLA troops who were attempting to close-in with one of our forward positions along the LAC and when dissuaded by own troops, PLA troops fired a few rounds in the air in an attempt to intimidate own troops.”
India has strongly condemned these attempts being made by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops and have warned that India would retaliate if Chinese army continues to make these attempts of overtaking Indian held positions
It is the PLA that has been blatantly violating agreements and carrying out aggressive manoeuvres, while engagement at military, diplomatic and political level is in progress.
