Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday said his government is laying major thrust for enhancing the share of recruitment of youth from the state in the armed forces, while reiterating his resolve to the welfare of soldiers.
Captain Deepak Singh, from the 48 RR, also receives the Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous) for his courageous leadership during an ongoing anti-terrorist operation in the forested areas of Assar in Doda district, Jammu. He was martyred while leading efforts to flush out Pakistani terrorists in August last year.

Further, in order to support the military effort, the government reacted swiftly in providing the necessary funding when faced with the situation in Ladakh. It granted emergency powers to the Armed Forces wherein the Indian Armed Forces could procure any weapon system below Rs 500 crore.
The exercise was aimed at validating India’s capabilities to safeguard the territorial integrity of its island territories. It also sought to enhance operational synergy and joint warfighting capabilities amongst the three Services.
The exercise was conducted under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) with the participation of Eastern Naval Command (ENC) and Army Southern Command (SC) involving assets of Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.
