As Pakistan faces a myriad of challenges like skyrocketing inflation, unemployment, depleting foreign exchange reserves and shortage of essential commodities, former Prime Minister Imran Khan warned that the country could slide into Sri Lanka-like situation if "free and fair" elections were not held by the incumbent government.
The former Prime Minister of Pakistan was booked on Sunday under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (punishment for acts of terrorism) over his comments at the rally, Dawn reported.
Meanwhile, PTI supporters also gathered in other cities of the country to register their protest against the former premier's possible arrest.
Lending strength to his claim, the Minister recalled that Khan had also announced that the services of 100 judges would be hired to expedite cases against his political opponents, Dawn reported.
Global Times reported that Khan is from a newly rising political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and when traditional major political parties like the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) or the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) return to power, China-Pakistan cooperation could be even better because these traditional major parties have much closer and deeper ties with China.
The NSC, which is the highest forum for coordination on security issues, is chaired by the Prime Minister and includes key federal ministers, the national security adviser, services chiefs and top intelligence officials.
"Allegations of US involvement in the no-trust motion and 'threat letter' to PM Imran Khan are baseless," said the State Department.
In a special message for the nation broadcast on television, social media and radio, the premier had said that the "group of bandits" who have been looting the county for the last 30 years have joined hands in "auctioning the conscience of the elected public representatives."
Addressing the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Islamabad, Imran Khan said that there is not any difference between types of Islam, and added that the faith has nothing to do with terrorism.
In February, Pakistan's Opposition leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif held a secret meeting with Tareen and discussed the ouster of the Imran Khan government as per local media reports.
