Delhi Police officials, on Wednesday, carried out a special drive in the Kalindi Kunj area of South East Delhi to check the documents of the people for details about the Bangladeshi immigrants living illegally in the area.
It was apprehended that the Supreme Court of India would pronounce the verdict in favour of 1971 as the cut-off year to detect and deport all illegal migrants from Assam, as the signatories of Asom Chukti endorsed the same, even though the larger indigenous population expected the judgement in support of the base year, applicable to the whole nation.
Taking the issue of human trafficking from Bangladesh, which came up in the investigation of the gang-rape seriously, the central Home ministry handed over the case to NIA for further investigations.
