His 175th appearance in Champions League ensured that he moves past the tally of Italy and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini who had 174 Champions League appearances against his name.
Ramos, who was playing his 168th match for Spain, also broke the record for the most number of appearances for the Spanish football team. He surpassed goalkeeper Iker Casillas’ tally.
Casillas made his professional debut with Real Madrid under then coach, Welshman John Benjamin Toshack, against Athletic Bilbao in September 1999 in San Mames at the age of 19.
