Sudhakaran said humidity refers to the amount of moisture in the air. "In regions like North India, humidity levels can skyrocket, making the air feel heavy and sticky. High humidity can affect the air conditioner in several ways," he said.
The only way to walk during rain is to pass through muddy slush, as the roads are meant for traffic. The pedestrians have to jump over puddles and keep their balance.
The medical community believes that akin to the flu viruses, humidity may have an impact on the increased transmission of Covid-19.
Researchers, including Jeremiah Matson from Marshall University in the US, noted that the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 is less stable at higher humidity and warmer temperatures.
According to the study, published in the journal Science Advances, repeated incidents appeared in much of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, northwestern Australia, along the coasts of the Red Sea, and Mexico's Gulf of California.
He said, “There is possibility of rainfall over Sikkim, and the districts of Birbhum, Bankura, east and west Burdwan, Purulia, Murshidabad, Hooghly and Howrah will experience isolated showers.”
It was learnt that the maximum and minimum temperature recorded as of 5.30 pm, was 32 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius, respectively.
The IMA said that however high atmospheric temperature, humidity and malnutrition appear to play a role in the causation of this encephalopathy.
Wednesday is expected to be another hot and dry day in the national capital with the mercury likely to touch the 44-degree Celsius mark.
