humanity

Will humans learn from their history?

Human beings as we know them today can be traced back to about 100,000 years, perhaps a few thousand years less or more. For about 90 per cent of this time, there was a remarkable continuity in the life of humanity.

World must seek the path of peace

These times of an escalating environmental crisis are supposed to be times of increasing peace and international cooperation as without this it is impossible to resolve the life-threatening environmental problems.

Towards prosperity

Humanity has come a long way in the choices it has made in electing those who are called to govern. Understandably, the systems of governance throughout the world are far from perfect.

Future has arrived

Many of the ‘golden ages’ in history were actually gilded ages. And yet, there are people and leaders who are more obsessed with the ‘halcyon’ past than the present. To them, the present is the ‘always postponed future.’

An illusion of progress

It is common to regard the history of humanity mainly in terms of progress, particularly when longer-term comparisons are involved. However, if we are looking at real welfare of people, then there is no reason or evidence to believe in the inevitability of progress.
