With over 35 million devotees taking a holy dip in the Sangam on Tuesday on the occasion of the first Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti, the grand and spiritually significant Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 continues to witness an overwhelming turnout of devotees.
Pilgrims from across India and nations like the USA, Russia, Germany, Italy, Ecuador, and more have gathered at the sacred Sangam, immersing themselves in Sanatan culture.
There was a huge crowd at the Ganga ghats of Prayagraj, Kanpur, Vindyachal, Varanasi and Garh Mukteshwar along with Saryu Ghat in Ayodhya and in other places.
The Maghi Purnima bathing also marks the conclusion of the month-long Kalpvas, during which devotees engage in worship, aarti, and charitable acts.
As a mark of respect for the festival, the Yogi Adityanath Government showered flower petals from a helicopter to add to the enthusiasm of the devotees.
Makar Sankranti is a festival in the Hindu calendar, in which devotees make offerings to the deity Surya.
Heavy security arrangements have been made to ensure that there is no untoward incident.
"We were expecting about 10 lakh to come for the dip in the first half of the day, but the numbers have already crossed 16 lakh by 2 pm," an official told.
Security arrangements have been beefed up in the area by the state government as well as the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
