A hoax bomb alert in the old walled city here on Friday kept the police on their toes for hours in search of explosives.
A 25-year-old West Delhi resident was arrested for issuing a hoax bomb threat to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport via a social media account in an attempt to draw attention to himself.
Hoax bomb threats or other unusual happenings continued to mar normal operations – take-off or landing – of at least three flights of different airlines in Rajasthan on Friday.
According to the police, the fake call was received in the morning and immediately teams of police and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the airport. However, after thorough checking, no explosive device was found at the airport.
The bomb threat received via email led the students to evacuate the Delhi Public School (DPS), Mathura Road. But nothing suspicious was found in a thorough search of the premises conducted by the police.
The police were immediately alerted after which a dog squad and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the spot and evacuated people from the hotel.
