Heavy rains and strong winds during the persisting deep depression caused power cuts for three days in certain locations in Purbasthali, Kalna of East Burdwan that invited a road block by the aggrieved residents on Monday.
Heavy rains in parts of north coastal Andhra on Sunday triggered a flood alert even as Vijayawada and other areas affected by last week’s floods in the south coastal region are yet to fully recover.
About 300 cars, including brand new vehicles, were found submerged at a showroom and service centre in Andhra Pradesh's flood-battered Vijayawada.
Water from adjoining areas, flowing onto the tracks is posing a hurdle in train movements of the circular railway system in Kolkata.
"Heavy rains have been witnessed in Goa over the last few days, which has led to areas like Sattari, Bicholim, Ponda, Dharbandora, Bardez, and Pernem being majorly hit. Such flooding has not occurred in Goa since 1982. A rough report is being prepared by the state Disaster Management team," he said, adding that while the exact quantum of damage has not been established yet, losses due to the rains and flooding are pegged in the region of a few crore rupees.
The rescue team of around 15 fire-brigade personnel deployed ladders and thick nylon ropes to create a human wall in the gushing stream barely a dozen metres wide, and helped the marooned people cross over, without any injuries.
"Our crew is onsite working to clear the tracks as soon as possible," Ghatge said.
Water-logging was reported from chronic spots of Dadar, Parel, Wadala, Sion, besides low-lying areas in Malad, Santacruz, Dahisar.
The Meteorology Department in its latest weather report said heavy rains measuring 150 mm could be expected over the weekend and the public was urged to be cautious especially about heavy lightning.
