According to sources, there has been cross-voting as three independent MLAs and six Congress MLAs are said to have voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan.
Mahajan, a former minister and a close loyalist of ex-Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh, had joined the BJP in September 2022, just a few months ahead of the Assembly elections. He was the working president of the state Congress when he quit the party.
The move to field Mahajan as BJP nominee comes despite the party having MLAs less than the Congress in the 68-member Legislative Assembly.
The Congress State General Secretary and legislator Vikramaditya Singh on Thursday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has kept a fund of Rs 500 crore to bribe the Congress leaders ahead of the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election.
The Congress party has no leadership or policy or vision for the welfare of the state or the country, says BJP.
A three-time MLA who represented Chamba Assembly constituency was first elected in 1993 and won consecutively in 1998 and 2003.
