The Municipal Corporation here on Monday issued a recovery notice of Rs 2.44 crore against Abdul Malik, a key accused in the violence at Haldwani, asking him to deposit the money to cover damage caused to government property during the clash.
Five people died in the violence that erupted after the anti-encroachment drive on Thursday, following which a curfew was imposed in the area.
The violence left at least four persons dead and many others injured on February 8 in mob attack on the police and anti-encroachment squad of the municipal corporation.
IMC chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, who led the protest march, passed harsh remarks against BJP governments before courting arrest only to be released immediately.
A curfew has been imposed in Haldwani city until further orders.
