The State’s GSDP contracted by 5.3 per cent in 2020-21 which is lower than the contraction experienced at all India levels, i.e. 6.6 per cent. In spite of the adverse impact of COVID-19 second wave, the state economy is likely to grow by 10.1 percent in 2021-22.
Accordingly, on receipt of recommendations from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Department of Expenditure has granted permission to these 20 States to raise additional financial resources of Rs 39,521 crore through Open Market Borrowings.
According to Anurag Thakur, Rs 215.43 crore was disbursed for Darjeeling district, out of which Rs 68.04 crore was disbursed in cash and Rs 147.39 crore in kind. Rs 52.55 crore had been given to Kalimpong district, out of which Rs 6.53 crore was in cash and Rs 46.02 crore in kind.
