The killed cop has been identified as Tahir Khan, who was a resident of the LOC village Mendhar in the Poonch district of Jammu.
Luckily, the grenade missed its target and hence no damage was caused. Coming as it does ahead of the Independence Day, security forces are concerned over the attack.
The ADGP (Jammu) Mukesh Singh said that a letter was also found in which the Jammu Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) terror outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The spokesman said that on the night of 17 July, an accidental grenade blast occurred, when the Indian Army troops were performing their duties along the LOC in Mendhar Sector, District Poonch.
After receiving the information, the anti-terror unit of the Delhi Police -- Special Cell -- and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos were informed about the development who then reached the spot at the Yamuna Khadar area.
The grenade missed the target and landed near the shops shattering the windowpanes.
Reports said that terrorists lobbed a grenade towards a post of 23 battalion of CRPF. However, the grenade missed the target and exploded on roadside injuring two persons.
The attack took place in the Sumbal bridge area in the morning after which the area had been cordoned off by the security forces.
The grenades landed in front of civilians, and though two didn't explode, one did, causing shrapnel injuries to 75-year-old Keipa of Kangnyu village.
