The Central government's Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), on Monday, once again invoked curbs under stage III of its anti-pollution Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi-NCR in the wake of a sharp rise in Delhi's pollution level due to adverse meteorological conditions.
The Supreme Court on Thursday permitted the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to relax stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GTAP) restrictions in Delhi-NCR to GRAP stage II in view of the downward trend and betterment in the Air Quality Index (AQI).
Following the implementation of anti-pollution measures under the Graded Response Action Plan's stage-III, enforcement agencies were seen in action across the city inspecting and monitoring vehicles over pollution norms and the violations with regard to the anti pollution plan.
Rai further accused the BJP ruled states in the northern region for deliberately working to increase Delhi's pollution.
With the implementation of Graded Response Action Plan’s (GRAP) stage- III restrictions in Delhi, the city's air quality index saw slight improvement on Friday, moving to 'very poor' category from the 'severe' one a day earlier.
AQI in Delhi's Anand Vihar was recorded at 478 on Sunday morning.
The CAQM held a review meeting on January 1 with regard to the air quality scenario in the region and observed the forecasts by the India Meteorological Department(IMD)
Addressing the media, Rai said that the air pollution control plan will chiefly impact the construction and demolition activities and will also have a bearing on the plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars.
All construction and demolition activities will be banned under the GRAP Stage III.
The CAQM has asked all the agencies concerned to implement all the actions under GRAP stage- III with immediate effect.
