Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had written a letter to the Governor on Monday requesting him not to go ahead with the state’s Foundation Day as it will rekindle the bitter memories of millions of people unnecessarily.
The authorities of both the temples had decided to open the gates to devotees from 5am so that they could offer the puja early. Businessmen bought new accounts books and offered puja to Goddess Kali which is considered to be auspicious.
The party thanked the Supreme Court for approving the Punjab Assembly session called by it on March 3, for which the state governor had declined consent.
