Lopsang Lama is the working president of the Gurung faction of the Morcha and he was one of the main faces of the party when Gurung had gone into hiding after the 2017 Gorkhaland agitation in the Hills.
Addressing a public meeting at the Aaley ground in Mirik in Darjeeling for the first time after he returned from hiding, Gurung iterated that they elected BJP Members of Parliament for a consecutive three terms, but yet the party at the Centre "did nothing" for the Gorkhas.
The lockdown was in force in Municipality areas of Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Mirik and Kurseong,and some other places like Tindharia, Bijanbari, SukhiaPokhari, and Sonada, where Covid-19 cases had been detected.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, GTA chairman Anit Thapa said it was an administrative review meeting on the present Covid situation in the GTA area, mainly in the Kurseong region, which has seen a spike in the number of cases, of late.
Mr Thapa maintained that 800+ cars were provided from the DM office, 300+ cars by the GTA, along with three buses to transport more than 10,000 people to the GTA region.
Two from Sonada and two from Kurseong had recent travel history; their samples were collected on 18 May in Kurseong Sub-Divisional Hospital.
Mr Thapa also said that they would limit the time in the evenings to allow migrants to enter through the GTA check points.
The GTA had also asked all tourists who were already in areas under the GTA to leave as soon as they can.
Chowrasta is a place in Darjeeling where people go for enjoyment and is also a tourist spot.
