Chief Minister Vijayan also informed the Governor that there is laxity on the part of the Customs Department in checking gold smuggling at airports.
The owner of the ‘Airhub’ shop, Sabir Ali, and eight others including sales executives of the shop and a Sri Lankan transit passenger from the Gulf were arrested and remanded to custody.
According to the customs department, the man had received the gold chain from a passenger in the arrival hall, whom he had come to receive at the airport.
The all-India gold seizure by the DRI in this financial year has crossed 1000 kg.
The gold has been seized and three passengers have been placed under arrest under the Customs Act. Further investigation is being carried out.

During the search of their baggage, gold strips weighing about 3 Kg and valued at Rs. 1.33 Cr found concealed in the outer lining of their trolley suitcases. The said gold was seized under Customs Act and both the passengers were arrested by Customs Officials.
