A statement issued by Goa Forward president and former Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai, after a meeting of the party's state executive committee on Wednesday, also said that anti-BJP forces should form 'Team Goa' to install a new government post polls.
'I would like to apologise to Goans for the major political mistake I have made in my career of not opting out of the government after the death of Mr Parrikar. Today, Goans are suffering because of our mistake and we are ready to seek penance,' Mr Sardesai told the gathering.
Ashma Sayed was appointed as a vice chairperson of the newly formed corporation aimed at facilitating loans and assistance to members of the minority communities in Goa in 2018, sometime after the formation of the BJP-led coalition government, which was supported by the Goa Forward party.
Sawant had taken oath as CM a little past midnight on March 19, along with Goa Forward Party’s Vijai Sardesai and MGP’s Sudin Dhavalikar as deputy CMs – a first in Goa.
The mid-night political drama has increased the strength of the BJP from 12 to 14 in the 40-member House, bringing them on par with opposition Congress which has an equal number of MLAs on the floor.
The new government was sworn-in with the support of 20 MLAs, including 11 from the BJP and three each from GFP, MGP and Independents.
Parrikar, 62, has been undergoing treatment for a pancreatic ailment for several months now and arrived in the state on October 14 post hospitalisation at the AIIMS in New Delhi.
