India has made remarkable progress in the global innovation index ranking finding a place in the top 40 for the first time, according to the annual report released by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on Thursday.
Highlighting the Centre's science and technology-based development model, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India's Global Innovation Index ranking improved from 81 in 2015 to 46 at present due to the central government's efforts.
The launch session will be attended by Dr V K Saraswat, Member, Niti Aayog; Dr K Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Adviser to Government of India; Mr Daren Tang, Director General, WIPO and others.
The assertion said the GII is the support for the legislatures – across the world – to evaluate the social and the monetary changes in their separate nations.
Switzerland, Sweden, the US, the UK and the Netherlands lead the innovation ranking, and the top 10 positions are dominated by high-income countries, WIPO said in a statement.
According to the ministry, this is for the first time that the GII is being launched in an emerging economy.
