The PCB confirmed the parting with the former South Africa opener on Monday, ahead of the white-ball team’s twin tours of Australia and Zimbabwe, where Pakistan will play six limited overs matches each.
Gary Kirsten, the former star batsman of South Africa, and former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie have been finalised as head coaches for the white-ball and the red-ball cricket respectively of the Pakistan men's senior cricket teams.
The 40-year-old McCullum, a former New Zealand captain, was recently appointed the England Test team coach by England men's cricket managing director Rob Key after weeks of speculation.
"And then he scores 18 international hundreds (19 actually) in three years."
"I got an email from Sunil Gavaskar - would I consider coaching the Indian team," Kirsten recalled.
Earlier, reports had suggested that Gary Kirsten, the former head coach of both South Africa and India, was the front runner but that he fell behind Silverwood after the interview.
Notably, Gary Kirsten had famously helped India lift the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 during his stint as the coach of the team.
Kirsten led India to the 2011 World Cup victory on home soil and then oversaw Proteas' rise to the numero uno spot in Test rankings.
In the 2015 edition of the World Cup, India had defeated South Africa in the group stage. After setting up a target of 308, the Men in Blue bundled out the Proteas for 177, thus registering their first win over South Africa in all editions of the World Cup.
Raman is currently a batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
