Gangarampur sets 5-Aug no-trust date

On 26 June, nine of the 18 councillors demanded a noconfidence motion against the chairman. Ex-vice chairman Amalendu Sarakar led the rebel councillors, who have been out of contact since 27 June. Even their mobile phones are switched off.

On the other hand, the chairman resumed office this morning. Mr Mitra claimed that the no-confidence motion, if brought about, would be illegal, as, according to him, the district president has no right to sack party members.
