The highest number of deaths (22) were reported in Cachar district.
According to the flood bulletin released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two deaths occurred in Cachar, and another in Nagaon district.
State revenue minister, K. Rajan is leading the rescue operations from Idukki and Kottayam districts of the state. The state government has announced immediate assistance of Rs 8 crore to the Kottayam district.
The Prime Minister spoke to Banerjee on the flood situation in the state caused by water discharge from dams in parts of Bengal.
He mentioned that investment should be increased in localised early warning system so that people in a particular area can be provided with timely warning in case of any threatening situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and took stock of the flood situation in their respective states.
The Amarnath pilgrimage has also been suspended due to bad weather. Met department has forecast improvement in weather from Saturday.
