KMC mulls to set up its own medical waste treatment plant

At a time when controversy over alleged scams of biomedical wastes at R G Kar Hospital are making headlines, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation is considering plans to set up its own medical waste treatment plant for proper disposal of such wastes.

He highlighted, as per an agreement with the Kolkata Port, in the next two to three months RO-RO vessel services will be introduced for Calcutta-bound goods vehicles which will reduce the load on the second Hooghly Bridge. He added that electric trolleybuses will be introduced by next March if the trials are successful

Hakim vows to rid Kolkata of waterlogging woes

“Waterlogging in Behala will be solved when the Asian Development Bank project that includes canal desiltation work, gets completed. In Kidderpore, one more pumping station will be set up. Areas like Lake Gardens and Amherst Street will also get a pumping station and undergo desiltation work. The same would happen in Tollygunge and Jadavpur.” Hakim said the KMC will soon start ‘Show the Mayor’ programme which will be on the lines of the Talk to Mayor.
