According to sources, Kanker Medical College faces a substantial penalty of Rs 1 crore, while Durg Medical College faces a fine of Rs 4 lakh. Similarly, medical colleges in Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Mahasamund, and Jagdalpur have each been fined Rs 3 lakh.
The police have requested the drivers not to use cellphones while driving, but it yielded lukewarm response. Once caught, the errant driver will have to pay the fine. Drivers particularly those on two wheelers are found to violate the stop line in such cases a fine of Rs 500 will be imposed for the first time and it will go up to Rs 1,500 subsequently.
“Members of the committee have announced holding a demonstration in front of the Transport Department office at Kasba on Monday,” informed one of the union leaders. Operating services with such a high amount of fines is very difficult. We demand immediate withdrawal of the notification,” added the union leader.
The order came following a PIL in 2016 challenging allotment of a two-acre plot in New Town by WBHIDCO alleging violation of rules, regulations. The allotment was made on 27 September 2013 and the plot was surrendered to WBHIDCO in August 2020.
