Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday that a compensation policy is already in place for high-tension power lines passing through farmers' fields.
He made these remarks when Australian High Commissioner Philip Green paid a courtesy call on him at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.
Ahead of the Assembly polls in Maharashtra, Congress said on Wednesday that the soybean and cotton farmers have been left to fend for themselves under the Mahayuti government in the state.
"Foodgrain production witnessed a record increase due to good production of rice, jowar, and maize," an official statement said.
He said that the government has become "a U-turn expert".
A farmer, Hajji Abdul Hamid who distributes water among the farmers in the province, called upon the local government and aid agencies.
In this celebration of democracy, of course, the first tributes should be paid to the determination of farmers as well as their commitment to a peaceful and democratic struggle. At the same time credit should also be given to the government for not standing on a false sense of prestige and opting for a democratic solution.
The Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella organisation of the farmers' unions, said that their protests would continue till their demands, including guarantee for minimum support price and dismissal of Union Minister Ajay Misra Teni, were met.
Farmers have been protesting against the government's three farm laws since they were passed by the Centre in 2020 namely The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.
These leaders are almost unanimous in saying that they will not call off their agitation, continuing for over a year, till these laws are finally junked by completing the constitutional process of taking these to Parliament.
