"Three people have been rescued so far, a few people feared trapped. Rescue operation underway,” stated Delhi Fire Service.
Police have arrested the owner of the factory Suresh Gupta, 43, resident of Budh Vihar, Phase-I, who was making faux cumin seeds using grass, jaggery vinegar and stone powder in the illegal factory.
Analysts said weak manufacturing would have dampened economic growth in the third quarter, raising the spectre of a technical recession, which is defined as two straight quarters of negative growth.
The official informed that they received a call about the fire incident around 7.46 a.m. at a plastic dana factory located at I-55, Sector-5, DSIDC, Bawana Industrial area, in north Delhi after which as many as 15 fire tenders were immediately pressed into the service.
Considering the gravity of the matter, immediately more fire tenders were called. Around ten fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish the fire.
The police said that the gas leaked from a tanker. Most of the affected people are daily wagers who were sleeping near the site, the police said.
In recent weeks, various state governments, including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, have either made amendments or proposed changes to existing labour laws.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a tweet, expressed concern over the fire incident in Peera Garhi and said that he is closely monitoring the situation.
