AAP, Cong reject exit polls’ prediction of clean sweep for BJP in Delhi
The AAP, Congress and other opposition parties on Thursday rejected the exit poll prediction of a clean sweep for the saffron party in the Delhi Assembly elections.
The AAP, Congress and other opposition parties on Thursday rejected the exit poll prediction of a clean sweep for the saffron party in the Delhi Assembly elections.
MP Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav Thursday said the BJP is set to form the government in Delhi. The CM asserted that the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the work done by the BJP has turned the tables on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.
The Election Commission of India (ECI), on Monday, banned exit polls for the Delhi assembly elections and one bypoll each in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu from 7.00 am to 6.30 pm on the polling day on February 5.
Minor reports of violence were received from Meerapur, Sismau, and Kundarki assembly segments, but by and large, the voting was peaceful, EC officials claimed.
Defying all exit polls, the BJP on Tuesday registered a hat-trick victory in the Haryana Assembly election, inflicting a big jolt to the Congress, which had overestimated its performance and prematurely thought it was time to celebrate.
The exit poll, conducted by Ipsos for BBC, ITV, and Sky, predicted Labour would capture 410 seats, relegating the Conservatives to a mere 131 seats.
But before that, several agencies have come out with the results of the exit polls that give an overview of the number of seats the three major parties, namely the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress are likely to win.
Going by the post-polling surveys, the Congress and the BJP are locked in a tight contest. If the exit poll holds true, JD(S) support will be required to reach the halfway mark.
