Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking review of its judgement rejecting plea for 100 per cent verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) votes with their Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips.
The latest statement of the Congress leader came a day after he called EVMs a ‘black box’ in India that cannot be scrutinised, in the wake of a media report claiming EVM hacking at Mumbai North West parliamentary constituency in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.
He said the goal is to leave no one behind and let everyone fully participate in the electoral process.
Despite the commission's lofty claims, the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) new Election Management System (EMS) failed, he said.
"Elections through ballot paper are necessary to restore the faith in democracy,” said the Samajwadi Party president.
The SEC had altogether 20,500 EVMs of which 15,687 EVMs are in working condition. The SEC had recently conducted the polls in five municipal corporations and for that the SEC has used 10,620 EVMs and presently the poll panel has only 5,067 EVMs in their hand.
We have to maintain these EVMs and VVPAT machines and hearing is necessary as elections in states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab are coming up,"
Tagging the tweet which carried the video, Priyanka Gandhi said every time there is an election, videos of private vehicles caught transporting EVMs show up.
The Election Commission (EC) has set January 30 as the date for the election of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
The States and UTs were further asked to take adequate measures for the security of strongrooms and venues of counting of votes.
