January 2025 the warmest on record: Copernicus

January 2025 was the warmest on record globally, with the average surface temperature 0.79 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2000 January average, the EU-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) reported on Thursday.

Nations must shun urge to dominate

While exceptionally favourable conditions led to the emergence of the USA as the dominant world power in the post-1945 days, this dominance was never total during the cold war years and was constrained by the presence of the Soviet Union as an alternative centre of considerable power.
