In an effort to implement the directives of the model code of conduct (MCC) for assembly election, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday stated that it has removed a total of 1.26 lakh posters, banners, hoardings, and small boards across its 12 zones.
Political activities have gained momentum in Uttar Pradesh following the announcement by the Election Commission of the date for the by-poll to the prestigious Milkipur assembly seat in Ayodhya on February 5.
The Election Commission of India will host a press conference today to announce the schedule for the General Election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday, wrote to the District Election Commissioner complaining of an unusual spike in the addition and deletion of vote in the New Delhi constituency ahead of the assembly polls in the national capital.
Elections to 70 Assembly seats in Delhi are scheduled to be held early next year.
“Nitish Kumar has conceded defeat even before elections and hence is placing such demands before the Election Commission through his men,” RJD spokesman Mritunjay Tiwari said.
Originally the elections were to take place on March 26 for 55 Upper House seats, but 37 candidates have already been elected without a contest and the EC deferred the polls citing the threat of the novel coronavirus.
The Election Commission has notified that the Biennial Elections to the Bihar Legislative Council by the members of the Legislative Assembly would be held on 6 July 2020 since the term of the nine members of Bihar Legislative Council expired on 5 May 2020.
The former Member of Parliament from Chandigarh said in the new situation which has arisen because of Coronavirus, it may not be possible to permit voting in polling booths where people assemble in large numbers and the government may have to examine introducing online voting or postal voting to avoid large scale gatherings in polling booths.
The voting will be conducted between 9 am to 4 pm on March 26 and the counting will take place on the same day at 5 pm.
