Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has welcomed his former leader Uddhav Thackeray's "radical change" in the form of his supposed 'return to Hindutva', on Wednesday.
Fadnavis had taken oath as the Maharashtra chief minister, along with Shinde and NCP chief Ajit Pawar as deputy chief ministers on December 5.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has demanded the crucial home ministry from the BJP and talks on portfolio allocation are still in progress, Shinde's aide and Shiv Sena MLA Bharat Gogavale said in Mumbai on Saturday.
Victorious Mahayuti allies, the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), are now engaged in hectic and intense negotiations over the distribution of ministerial portfolios for the cabinet expansion expected sometime next week.
This is the third time Fadnavis was sworn-in as the Maharashtra chief minister.
Hours before the Maharashtra government’s swearing-in ceremony, a group of Shiv Sena leaders met party chief Eknath Shinde on Thursday to reportedly persuade him to accept the deputy chief minister’s post.
Alongside Fadnavis, two deputy chief ministers will also take the oath of office.
The development came hours after Fadnavis publicly urged Shinde to join his Cabinet while addressing a press conference after staking claim to form a Mahayuti government in Maharashtra.
Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde would never have had the guts to try delaying tactics and sulking against Maharashtra CM frontrunner Devendra Fadnavis unless he had the backing of some 'Mahashakti' (superpower) in Delhi, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said in Delhi on Tuesday.
Devendra Fadnavis will be officially declared BJP's CM candidate after the BJP Legislature Party meeting tomorrow.
