Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud on Saturday called for institutionalising Lok Adalats at the Supreme Court, stating that people are fed up of long delays in judicial processes and want to come out of it agreeing for any settlement – even at a cost less than what they are legally entitled to.
The CJI was attending the convocation of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University here on Saturday.
The CJI landed at Maharishi Valmiki airport at 3:15 pm. From there, amidst elaborate security arrangements, he went to the Tourism Department Hotel located on the bank of Saryu river.
The 2023 judgment held that the right to marry is not a fundamental right and it (the top court) cannot read into the Special Marriage Act (SMA), the words that would amount to judicial legislation.

A five-judge Constitution bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha asked the parties to complete the compilation of papers.
