Three persons, lodged in jails and facing prosecution in separate criminal cases including rape and drug peddling, were asked by the Orissa High Court to plant 50 trees in their respective native villages while granting them conditional bail.
The arrested drug peddler- identified as Anand Kumar- is an original inhabitant of Uttar Pradesh and was operating a roadside kiosk at the Kargil slum area.
A huge haul of 1,406 kilograms of cannabis locally called ganja was seized on 1 February this year from the MV-79 Police Station area of Malkangiri district.
The accused house owner Gh Mohi-ud-din managed to flee from the spot, while Wazeer Ahmad was arrested. Efforts were being made to nab the other person, police said.
According to the police, celebrity turned actress, Cosmetic industrialist Sonia Agarwal, industrialist Bharath and DJ Vachan Chinnappa are the arrested persons. Bengaluru East police have taken them into custody and were questioning them.
The arrested drug peddlers were natives of the Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Balasore districts. They had a history of illegal trading in banned narcotic substances, Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said.
3 persons have died due to drug overdose in the state and there were 10 other suspected deaths.
