On Army Day the Ministry of Defence launched a portal on battlefields. The portal, released by the defence minister, has details of how to visit various well-known battlefields and war memorials, and where visitors can pay homage to those who laid down their lives.
The PM is scheduled to visit and pay homage to the Kargil War Heroes on 26 July at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on the 25th anniversary of India's victory over Pakistan during the Kargil War in 1999.
Kashmir is currently under the grip of 'Chillai-Kalan'- the 40-day harshest period of winter when the chances of snowfall are most frequent and maximum and the temperature drops considerably.
The event was planned to commemorate the 20th year of Kargil Victory and was flagged off from the Kargil War Memorial at Drass early this year on 21 Sep 19.
Recalling the valour and sacrifice of troops who fought in Operation VIJAY in this sector in 1999, he exhorted all ranks to execute their assigned tasks with the same josh, vigour and responsibility.
