Slamming the BJP-led Union government for its persistence with imposing Hindi disregarding Tamil and other languages and washing its hands off Manipur, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday, charged the Centre with usurping the legitimate rights of the states.
At a meeting with the Chairperson and members of the 16th Finance Commission, the Chief Minister called for a new model of sharing tax revenue which does not hinder the growth of developed states.
Caught between his party’s long cherished goal of power sharing and the political compulsion of remaining with the DMK, Dalit leader and MP Thol Thirumavalavan on Friday ruled out entering into an electoral alliance with actor Vijay’s fledgling Tamilaga Vettri Kazagam (TVK).
“Many have started coming up with the motto of destroying the DMK. But, it is not necessary for me to respond to them. The people will give them a fitting reply,” he said, speaking at a marriage reception of a party functionary in Thanjavur, 343 km south of Chennai, on Thursday.
DMK, in the petition, said the top court has committed an error apparent on the face of the record by holding that abolition of reservations.

Two years before the scheduled parliamentary elections in 2024, the BJP has identified two big targets in south India — Tamil Nadu and Telangana, both ruled by regional parties. Looking ahead, the party wants to reduce the north-south divide.
The DMK government has scrapped several welfare schemes implemented by the party, including free laptop scheme for school students as well as Amma clinics, alleged EPS.
The Congress has agreed to sign the memorandum, while the other opposition parties are yet to make their stand clear.
Stalin had also warned the BJP-led Union government of DMK's continued opposition, and asked the government not to force another language war by imposing Hindi.
