Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday said demonising Constitutional institutions is fast becoming a pastime and added that this does no good to the nation
Without naming Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, VP Dhankar said “The world laughs at us when a person in a Constitutional position engages in behaviour abroad that disregards their oath to the Constitution.”
The Vice-President's remarks were apparently directed at the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his endorsement of Hindenburg Research's baseless and malicious report and also questioning of the credentials of market regulator, Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI).
Speaking at the 10th National Handloom Day event, Dhankar described economic nationalism as fundamental to "our spinal economic growth and economic independence".
Dhankhar said he was shocked to learn that the secretary of the assembly gave in writing that he has conveyed to the marshal who has but declined. “This is a very serious development and must not be treated as a trivial matter. How can the chief marshal act in such a manner? Where are we heading?”
Mr Dhankhar had written, “Governance in the state, constitutionally cliffhanging, requires us both to act in togetherness to serve the people. I earnestly appeal to you to accord the highest priority to this interaction at the earliest. It is our bounden duty and constitutional oath to ensure there is no constitutional stalemate.”
“The chief minister is not following the constitution and is not responding to my letters seeking information on different issues. But her constitutional responsibilities are to provide me necessary information. My duty is to restrict her inside constitutional boundary. Hope, she would respond to my queries.”
“serious procedural lapses and infractions of Rules of Business and law apparent in the present case, particularly dereliction of duty by the chief secretary, is being addressed separately for action at the level of the chief minister.”
Banerjee went on to say, "The Governor returned the file. I am the Chief Minister and I have signed the file. He is saying to get it approved by the Cabinet and then send the file."
