The Delimitation Commission on Tuesday concluded its two days public hearing on its draft report after meeting approximately 400 delegations from different parts of UT of J&K during its two day public sittings at Convention Centre, Jammu and SKICC, Srinagar. The commission was in Jammu on Monday and today held its sitting in Srinagar.
Terming the report as “highly objectionable”, Mir said several constituencies have less than 50,000 voters while others have more than 1.50 lakh.
"Merging of Anantnag Lok Sabha Constituency in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu is an example of gross injustice with the people,” he said.
PAGD spokesman and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said on Thursday that a meeting of the alliance will be held at Srinagar on 26 February to discuss the present prevailing situation in J&K.
In a statement, Tarigami said that the draft proposals of the Delimitation Commission are in line with the current ruling dispensation.
A Congress party tweet confirming Rahul Gandhi's visit said, "Shri Rahul Gandhi will be in Jammu tomorrow for a two-day tour and visit to Mata Vaishno Devi Temple. Stay tuned to our social media platforms for his interactions.”
The Delimitation Commission has said that 7 more assembly seats will be added in the J&K Assembly. This will increase the strength of the Assembly to 90.
Population has to be the only norm as has been the practice here in the past in J&K and elsewhere in the country, the NC demanded.
Interestingly, the National Conference whose president Farooq Abdullah, heads the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) has decided to meet the commission whereas the PDP and the ANC that are constituents of the PAGD have announced the boycott of the commission.
