AAP MLA Vinay Mishra took over as vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board on Monday and said he is committed to working relentlessly to address the water and sewer issues faced by Delhi residents, in line with Arvind Kejriwal’s vision for the city.
The NDMC has also appealed to the people, asking them to save water and use the precious natural resource judiciously.
The minister’s direction came during a meeting with officers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), BSES, and Delhi Jal Board in view of preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramzan.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva called it the result of the party’s allegations that chief minister had to clarify for the first time on the scam and corruption of the Delhi Jal Board.
Under the campaign, members of women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) associated with partner NGOs of Delhi Jal Board visited four water treatment plants (WTPs) of the DJB.
Bhardwaj took stock of the water billing issues from all zones and asked all the representatives what concrete steps they took on receiving the complaints of meter reading discrepancies.
Discussions were held on pragmatic ways to abate the pollution in the Yamuna that is found to increase after immersion of idols after the puja.
"We are working on a unique mix of natural and scientific methods to prevent sewage from falling into the Yamuna," said the Delhi Chief Minister.
This annual observance of Ramzan is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam. It lasts between one sighting of the crescent moon and the next.
DJB has advised residents of the area to keep sufficient water and also provided the options sending water tankers wherever the need arises.
