A day after holding a key all-party meeting on the issue of Justice Yashwant Varma of the Delhi High Court, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Wednesday that the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary are not pitted against each other, but all the institutions in the country have to function in tandem.
Trinamul Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has once again raised concerns over the impartiality of the judiciary after stacks of burnt cash were recovered from the residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Verma.
The judiciary is often described as the bedrock of a functioning democracy, upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no one is above it.
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday stayed the Boxing Federation of India’s (BFI) directive that only elected members of its affiliated state units could represent their respective states in the upcoming elections.
The plea is scheduled to come for a hearing on Wednesday before a division bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh.
"Our Constitution is in our hands, women have gained universal suffrage, right to work, right to worship and right against divorce by the utterance of three words," she said.
"Their goods are released after paying a paltry fine. In this way they are able to perpetuate illegal encroachment," the court said.
Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for WhatsApp LLC, informed the court that CCI was insisting on response to notices despite the matter being pending before the courts and under judicial consideration.
The bench replied that it can only ask the high court to hear this matter and that is the only relief, which it can grant.
