A local holiday has been declared in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTR) region of Assam on October 25 on the occasion of Diwali and Kali Puja. The holiday has been announced in the districts Kokorajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur and Udalguri.
During Diwali, families, and friends share sweets and gifts and there is also a strong belief in giving food and goods to those in need as this bring good fortune on the giver.
Kali Puja is celebrated at the chief minister's Kalighat residence for over 40 years.
