"Biparjoy is moving in an East Northeast direction at a wind speed of 80-90 kilometers per hour (kmph) as of 8:30 am," IMD Director said.
Of the seven systems recorded so far in the month of March, only one has crossed Tamil Nadu while the rest were weakened even before it reached the coast.
The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal had intensified into a cyclonic storm which was centred about 530 km south-southeast of Gopalpur on Friday
The deep depression, which is a remnant of the Cyclonic Storm 'Gulab' is likely to cause heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, IMD said on Monday.
The cyclone is very likely to move further northwestwards and weaken gradually into a depression during next 12 hours. The storm had commenced the landfall process around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
