Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, on Thursday, chaired a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to take stock of the situation arising from the unprecedented rise in air pollution in the city.
Earlier in the day, a DDMA meeting was held chaired by the Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal.
The decisions were taken in the 34th meeting of DDMA to review the COVID-19 situation in Delhi.
Other institutes like Jamia Millia Islamia have however said that they would wait for UGC guidelines and then decide on reopening.
The DDMA had ordered closure of the schools of 28 December last year soon after these institutions were reopened briefly.
With the fresh restrictions imposed by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the Delhi Metro operates at 50 per cent seating capacity and no standing passengers are allowed.
Marriage-related gatherings are permitted with a maximum of 200 people in attendance.
The Omicron infection tally has climbed to 358 across the nation. However, out of total Omicron positive, 114 have been discharged. So far 17 states have reported Omicron infection.
The permission allowed has a rider that there must be strict compliance of Covid-19 safety guidelines.
Amid the rise in coronavirus cases and the threat of its Omicron variant, the DDMA also directed district magistrates to ensure no Christmas and New Year gathering takes place in the national capital.
