Darjeeling MP Raju Bista raised the issue of re-inclusion of 11 excluded Gorkha sub-tribes—Gurung, Bhujel, Mangar, Newar, Jogi, Khas, Rai, Sunwar, Thami, Yakkha, and Dhimal—as Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Parliament, emphasising the urgency of the matter.
Union minister of commerce and industry emphasised the importance of producing quality tea and adhering to strict compliance standards for maximum residue limits (MRLs). He directed the food safety and standards authority of India (FSSAI) and state governments to enforce stringent monitoring measures.

After chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s criticism of Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, the latter hit back with a strong counterattack, responding to her remarks.
Strict lockdown was enforced in English Bazaar Municipality (EBM), Old Malda Municipality and Kaliachak- I in Malda in the administration's bid to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
"The recent sighting was some days ago. While they do not come near human settlements like the other normal leopards do, we see them either sleeping or resting on rocks or walking among the tea bushes or the hill slopes far away," Mr Rai said.
"The issues come to the mind of our MP whenever there is an election. BJP's National President did not promise anything, but gave assurances... It is very clear no work has been done on the issues of our aspirations. For how long in the name of assurance will you keep duping the janta? How long should people believe in your false assurances?" Mr Tamang said.
The DTDPLU leader added that the company had not only deposited its share of the Provident Fund (PF), but had also not deposited the share of the workers, due to which retired people have not been getting their PF for three years now.
On this, Mr Bista said he has drawn the attention of the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), J Satyanarayan, on 14 January this year, and requested him to set up the Aadhar Registration and Correction Centre for the Darjeeling parliamentary area.
