Shankar Ghosh submitted his resignation letter to the district party secretary, Jibesh Sarkar, yesterday. A first time councillor, Ghosh had been elected from Ward 24 in 2015. Amar Singh Rai of the Tamang camp had contested on a TMC ticket during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, while Mr Tamang himself had contested the Darjeeling Assembly by-elections that very year, supported by the TMC.
Notably, both the Bimal Gurung and Binoy Tamang factions of the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha are politically in league with Mamata Banerjee's party, but they have not yet finalised the candidates.
TMC (Hills) Spokesperson NB Khawas has said that they have compiled a report of the problems being faced by the people in the Hills, which they found during the party's 'Jan Sampark' programme (Bangodhwani Yatra) that was conducted recently.
Six cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC.
