Darjeeling MP Raju Bista raised the issue of re-inclusion of 11 excluded Gorkha sub-tribes—Gurung, Bhujel, Mangar, Newar, Jogi, Khas, Rai, Sunwar, Thami, Yakkha, and Dhimal—as Scheduled Tribes (ST) in Parliament, emphasising the urgency of the matter.
Union minister of commerce and industry emphasised the importance of producing quality tea and adhering to strict compliance standards for maximum residue limits (MRLs). He directed the food safety and standards authority of India (FSSAI) and state governments to enforce stringent monitoring measures.

After chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s criticism of Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, the latter hit back with a strong counterattack, responding to her remarks.
The administration had arranged for traditional wood pyres to cope with the situation.
Morcha (Bimal Gurung camp) leader from Kalimpong Anil Lopchan also said they condemned the statement made by Mr Lepcha.

"There seems to be a section of politicians who are deliberately misinterpreting the BJP commitment to promote mother tongues--Bengali, Nepali, Rajbongshi, Kurmali, Santhali and other languages, as stated in our manifesto, as being BJP attempt at imposing Bengali," Mr Bista said.
Shankar Ghosh submitted his resignation letter to the district party secretary, Jibesh Sarkar, yesterday. A first time councillor, Ghosh had been elected from Ward 24 in 2015. He was the member of the mayor-in council of health at the SMC until the tenure of the Left-run elected board ended in May 2020.
