According to police, the victim had been in a live-in relationship with the accused, Sanoj Mishra, for four years in Mumbai.
After the marriage, both families had occasional arguments over the issue, but neither complained to the police about past disputes, he added.
Terming the murder case as the 'rarest of rare' crimes, the Additional District Judge Court-2 held Sanjit Dash guilty and pronounced the death sentence on the basis of circumstantial, material, and medico-legal evidence.
During the investigation, the accused revealed to the police that he was influenced by the videos of criminal gangs that he watched on YouTube.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Pratapgarh, Abhishek Singh, "Some people barged into the house of Ambika Patel and dragged him away. They then tied Patel to a tree some distance away and set him on fire after sprinkling petrol on him. They fled immediately after."
