The government has purchased 15,000 doses of the antibody-based therapy, Ronapreve, which can be administered intravenously.
“The third wave may wreak havoc again across the country particularly the states that are getting prepared for festive seasons. We are requesting the people to avoid crowd, use masks and get vaccinated in order to prevent yet another tsunami of pandemic in Bengal,”
Despite repeated calls by health experts, a report by a panel formed by the Union Health Ministry has exposed the acute lacunae in the preparation for the third wave.

Covid ICU wards are being prepared under the supervision of the Special Task Force for Children at Chacha Nehru Children's Hospital, LNJP Hospital, GTB and at several other state-run hospitals. Two genome sequencing labs are planned to identify the virus variants at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Delhi.
"Over 30,000 beds for Covid patients and 4600 beds in the PIKU have already been readied. Doctors and nurses here worked with their heart and soul during the first and second waves of Covid-19 and we are satisfied to see the present condition of the super-speciality hospital here,"
Patnaik asked stakeholders in the state, starting from the police stations to the SP, and the collector level, to ensure there is no problem in the delivery of healthcare services at community health centres to the district level.
The Prime Minister told the CMs that funds are being made available to all the states for upgrading their health infrastructure. The Central government has also approved an emergency Covid response package of more than Rs 23,000 crores.
The Chief Minister has also directed the officials to equip child wards with modern medical equipment so that patients in rural areas to be able to access the best possible and free of cost treatment in their locality.
