Since Saturday, 362 new COVID-19 cases have been reported from across the country, with two deaths - one each in Kerala and Karnataka.
Other states that have reported significant case numbers include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), and Karnataka (47).
The total COVID-19 caseload of the country has risen to 4,50,26,261. These also include the JN.1 Covid variant cases.
According to the ministry, Karnataka reported 61 cases, followed by Maharashtra 35 and Kerala 25 cases.
The Covid caseload rose to 4,50,21,383 with the addition of the new cases of infections.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said London, and parts of three surrounding counties, would move into the highest of three levels of restrictions in force across England from Wednesday.
"India has been able to handle the crisis well under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who recognised the crisis early," said Javadekar adding that the pandemic has caused major upsets in countries across the globe.
Till Monday morning, the total coronavirus cases were recorded at 98,57,029 with 30,254 infections being reported in the last 24 hours.
President Donald Trump immediately released a video on Twitter, where he hailed the news as a "medical miracle" and said the first immunizations would take place "in less than 24 hours."
Britain, Canada, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have already approved the vaccine, the first in the world to complete a large-scale, phase 3 clinical trial.
