As of now, 10 cases have been detected by labs in Delhi, 10 by a Bengaluru lab, one in West Bengal, three in Hyderabad and five by the National Institute of Virology, Pune.
"The Union Health Secretary has written to all the states to keep a strict vigil on all events that could be potential "superspreader" events and to curb crowding in the wake of the New Year celebrations and various events associated with it as well as on-going winter season," the Health Ministry said in a statement.
The new strain of the virus, which experts fear is more contagious, has prompted more than 50 countries to impose travel restrictions on the UK.
The curfew had been called for restrictions in movement between 10 pm and 6 am till January 2.
